In 1942 and 1943 Allied (primarily Australian) forces fought to defend what was then Australian territory against the seemingly unstoppable invading Japanese forces. Overcoming limited numbers, poor initial organisation, sickness, exhaustion and supply issues the diggers bravely fought a tactical retreat that eventually halted the Japanese advance in the Pacific for the first time in the war and will be remembered forever.

This year is the 75th Anniversary of The Kokoda Track Campaign in World War II.

        The Kokoda Trail is a single-file foot thoroughfare that runs 96 kilometres overland – 60 kilometres in a straight line – through the Owen Stanley Range in Papua New Guinea.

        The track runs from Owers Corner in Central Province, 50 kilometres east of Port Moresby, across rugged and isolated terrain which is only passable on foot, to the village of Kokoda in Oro Province. It reaches a height of 2,190 metres as it passes around the peak of Mount Bellamy. The track travels primarily through the land of the Mountain Koiari people.

        Hot, humid days with intensely cold nights, torrential rainfall and the risk of endemic tropical diseases such as malaria make it a challenging trek. Hiking the trail normally takes between four and twelve days; the fastest recorded time is 16 hours 34 minutes. This is not a trek for the feint hearted. We will be completing the trek in 7 nights and it will be hard. You will be pushed to your limits!

        In 2006, the Owen Stanley Ranges and Kokoda Track was included on the Tentative List for World Heritage along with three other sites from PNG. The 1.5 million hectare property is a mixed cultural and natural site covering a significant proportion of the Owen Stanley Ranges and including the Kokoda Track, Managalas Plateau and Mount Victoria and Mount Albert Edward region. The World War II battle sites were a key reason for cultural listing along with the unique cultures of the Koiari peoples. The Owen Stanley Ranges, through which the Kokoda Track passes, is one of the most biologically important areas in the Asia Pacific with over 4000 plant species and many endemic bird and animal species.

Brett Hill

Dr Brett Hill is co-host of two of Australia’s top rated health podcasts, public speaker, Paleo advocate, chiropractor, barefoot runner and author of numerous books and e-books. He regularly appears on TV, radio and in print, and his media appearances, seminars, coaching and consulting have inspired thousands of people over the last decade to live a long, happy, healthy life full of energy and vitality.

In his early 20s, Dr Brett realised that it was time to make a change. He had been the kind of child who was always sick – not terribly sick, but not terribly well either. For as long as he could remember he had suffered from coughs and colds at least half a dozen times a year, he didn’t sleep well, was low in energy and not particularly fit. He realised that he had been doing the same things over and over again (including regular doses of antibiotics) and kept getting the same results. He decided to do something different.

Dr Brett realised that if he wanted better health he was going to have to make better choices. At the time he thought nothing of a lunch consisting of a pie, a pasty, a 1.25L soft drink and a chocolate bar. He would regularly go out and drink more than he should, and he did little to no exercise. Something had to give. Over the course of the next decade he gradually turned his life around. He started getting regular chiropractic care, cleaned up his diet, started exercising well and in the process he learnt what it takes to make real life-long changes to lifestyle and health.

In the process Dr Brett has been able to share his journey with his two gorgeous children Tom and Charlotte, who have inspired Dr Brett to take his message to the world in order to create a healthier environment for his family to thrive in.

Stephanie Reiter

Stephanie Reiter has been surrounded by health and wellness for as long as she has been alive. Born to 2 General Practitioners (one integrative) and with a naturopath and a herbalist for sisters and a brother who owns a health food store, she has been immersed in natural therapies and healthy eating from a very young age.

Stephanie has a Just Eat Real Food, low toxicity philosophy. She likes to make all her foods from scratch and balance each meal with good fats, carbs and protein. The Chemical-Maze is her bible. She doesn’t put anything on her skin that she can’t eat and she makes her own household products. Today she enjoys yoga, cross-fit and getting active outdoors in nature.

The Paleo diet works best for her life-long auto-immune condition Thrombocytopenia (low platelets) because it’s dairy free and grain free (gluten free).  At age 14 she went vegetarian for ethical reasons and stayed that way for ten years. She was always eating real food – having plenty of fresh fruit, big salads & veggie juices. She was a ‘carb-a-tarian’ having bread and pasta and she was ALWAYS hungry and tired.

Stephanie grew up with an active mind-set and craved movement. She was fortunate enough to have a home with a tennis court, swimming pool and trampoline, and at one stage was doing six extra-curricular sports a week. At the age of 18, a Tony Robbins event changed her mindset – and her life – forever. She let go of her limiting beliefs, gained an optimistic mindset and developed self-confidence.

At age 19 she founded Total Capture Photography and works around the world as The Wellness Photographer taking photos of health practitioners, events, retreats and adventures using her decade long experience of both photography and health to capture the essence of wellness.

At the age of 24 her integrative GP mum suspected she was a protein-metabolism-type. She started to have ‘just one a little taste’ of meat and from that point on her body craved. She was able to go six plus hours between meals and rarely felt hungry and no longer needed daytime naps.

At 27 she started 6am boot camp three times a week and got great results! When Steph Lowe (The Natural Nutritionist) wrote a meal plan for her she eased up her heavy-meat based diet and balanced that out with plenty of good fats and healthy carbs (veggies). Feeling on top of the world that fuelled her passion even more.

In 2016 at age 29 she spent a month photographing a health retreat on the Greek island of Ikaria – one of the blue zones. She ate plenty of seasonal, organic wholefoods and the only ‘unhealthy’ thing was the amount of buttered bread. Testing her bloods on return her platelets had halved and were dangerously low. She went off dairy and gluten immediately and within just a few weeks her platelet count skyrocketed for the first time in her life! To this day she is strictly gluten free and 99% dairy free.

Steph has always been an intensely curious person who has craved knowledge. Much of her health and wellness education has been self directed. Whether it be listening to podcasts, self directed study or attending seminars (The Bioceuticals Symposium, David Perlmutter, The Wellness Summits The Wellness Breakthroughs, David Wolfe, Don Tolman and Tony Robbins just to name a few) she has always sought to learn more so that she could improve her own health but also the health of others. She is now taking her message to the world in bigger and bigger ways.

Today she travels the world as The Wellness Photographer and she also shares her wisdom as The Wellness Lifestyler  through social media, blogging, writing, speaking and running her own events to inspire thousands of people to join her on her wellness journey.
