The battle to eat healthily is often won and lost at the shops. If you buy healthy stuff during your weekly shop, you are much more likely to be eating healthily throughout the week. I mean let’s face it, if you have one of those weak moments when you are home and there is something naughty in the fridge, you are much more likely to eat it then if you had to get dressed, get in the car, drive down to the shops, buy it and drive home again.

One of the best ways to help yourself buy healthy options at the shops is to never shop hungry. When you are hungry you will often crave all of those things you know you shouldn’t be eating. You will also find it much harder to resist temptation.

Another great simple step is to make a list and stick to it. It is so easy to be tempted once you are at the shops by all of those tasty treats that are placed in just the right places by behavioural experts with just the right colours and words designed by expert marketers, all designed to make them irresistible to you.

So make a habit of eating a nice, healthy, filling (high fat) snack before heading out to the shops. Then make a list at home away from all of those temptations and decide to stick to it. It will make a massive difference to your willpower in the aisles, and an even bigger difference to the goodness of your weekly meals and snacks.
