Dr Brett Says: Does it concern you that the swine flu manufacturers need legal immuntiy? If these vaccines are as safe and effective as suggested what do they need to be protected against?

The fact is that we have ordered millions of doses of vaccines that have not even been produced yet. We have no idea as to the safety and efficacy of these vaccines and the short trials that are planned are unlikely to give us much more information.

What we do know as stated in this article is that previous versions of this vaccine has had serious side effects. We also know that this virus is not even as virulent as the regular flu.

Dr Brett Says: Some sensible advice here. Don't keep taking pain killers over and over again and expecting a different result. At some stage you are going to have to deal with the cause of the pain and the longer you leave it the worse off you are likely to be.

ASHLEY HALL: A panel of US experts has raised new concerns about a popular painkilling drug. They want drug authorities there to slash the maximum allowable dose of paracetamol because overuse can cause serious liver damage.

Dr Brett Says: Finally some common sense in this whole swine flu debate. We have finally admitted that Swine Flu is even less virulent than seasonal flu. This just leaves the question of what we do with the 10 million doses of swine flu vaccine that we ordered.

Dr Brett Says: Dr Mercola is spot on here. This has been blown way out of proportion by the scare mongering media. Keeping your immune system fighting fit is the best defence against this pretty well every other disease or illness. Read Dr Mercola's great tips at the end.

From The New York Times.

The nation spends billions of dollars a year on patients' return visits to the hospital - many of which are readmissions that could be prevented with better follow-up care, according to a study published Wednesday in The New England Journal of Medicine.

Dr Brett Says: This is what happens when we focus on short term, crisis care solutions. We help people in the short term, but if we don't also focus on the cause and prevenion of the problem then they end up right back where they started.

Feb. 27 (Bloomberg) -- AstraZeneca Plc "buried" unfavorable studies on its antipsychotic drug Seroquel, according to an internal e-mail unsealed as part of litigation over the medicine.

The drugmaker failed to publicize results of at least three clinical trials of Seroquel and engaged in "cherry picking" of data from one of those studies for use in a presentation, an AstraZeneca official said in a December 1999 e-mail unsealed yesterday under an agreement between the company and lawyers for patients. The London-based company faces about 9,000 lawsuits claiming it failed to properly warn users that Seroquel can cause diabetes and other health problems.
