Read the eBook and become a Barefoot Athlete in your own backyard
Written by two of Australia’s leading movement experts – Dr Brett Hill and ultra-marathoner Kim Morrison – The Barefoot Athlete offers a revolutionary approach to running & will help you fall in love with the original human.
We have been inundated with requests from fans of our podcast shows who are interested in functional fitness and in particular barefoot running but just don’t know where to start. You have been asking us about footwear, about avoiding injuries and about optimal performance so we have decided to put it all together into one manual to teach you how to run well for life.
Welcome to The Barefoot Athlete. This book is designed as a resource, a tool and a passport to becoming a confident barefoot athlete. We created it as an adjunct to our Barefoot Athlete workshop — a guide to implementing the advice and techniques offered therein. It does not replace professional coaching nor is it designed as a one-size-fits-all prescription. This eBook is borne of our passion for the subject, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we’ve enjoyed putting it together.

What others are saying
Julie was plagued by injury & found it hard to WALK, let alone run. Hear what she had to say after attending Brett & Kim’s barefoot running workshop & following The Barefoot Athlete principles:
“I attended the inaugural ‘That Paleo Show Cave Camp’ where Dr Brett presented a session on the barefoot running technique. At the time, I was unaware how positively barefoot running would affect my life.
In 2013, I joined a very popular online weight loss and fitness program. This platform pushed participants to partake in intensive cardiovascular workouts in the form of a learn-to-run program. The program had one major failure; it did not give any advice on running technique or injury prevention. It promoted running faster and for longer intervals to lose weight. I followed it relentlessly and it did not take long for me to develop foot injuries, specifically plantar fasciitis, and heel spurs.
My injury stopped me from participating all forms of impact exercise and seriously restricted general movement in activities of daily living. I work as a nurse, spending the majority of my shift on my feet. This meant that I was now on an endless quest for the optimum pair of supportive orthotic casual and work shoes to make it through the day. By the time I met Dr Brett I had been suffering for twelve months and was taking pain relief almost daily.
The barefoot running course presented innovative concepts that were polar opposite to what was recommended by traditional health professionals. Reactivating and strengthening the foot muscles to allow the foot to support its own structures as well as the physiological forces produced by movement coupled with foot placement just seemed to make sense. I took what I had learnt home in the belief that it could not make my injury any worse.
The great news is that it is now five months on and I am pain free! I walk freely around the house barefoot and have no issues being on my feet all day at work. With the new techniques I’d learnt, I started to run again, very, very, slowly to start, but successfully building over time. I am more than thrilled to say that I can now run 10 km without pain (or stopping). I run with ease and enjoy every minute. I thought that my future would involve orthotic shoes and chronic pain but thanks to Dr Brett and the barefoot running technique, I am successfully moving again. I can wholeheartedly recommended this to anyone who wants to improve their technique and prevent injury.”
