Money is definitely one of the biggest stressors for many, many people. The biggest problem most people have in regards to their money is that they just bury their heads in the sand. It all just seems too hard, so they avoid stressing about their money problems by ignoring them completely. Unfortunately this never works. Because of the nature of money and expenses, you are forced to confront these fears every day whether you want to or not, and the more you try and ignore them the bigger the problem becomes.
The key to reducing your money fears is to get informed.
- 1. Find out how much money you have. It is amazing how many people have money in all different spots and debt in even more places and just don't realise what their actual financial position is. The truth is less stressful than not knowing, because at least once you know, you can start to manage it.
- 2. Find out how much you make. Sounds simple doesn't it, but you would be surprised how many people don't actually know how much they take home each week after tax. Especially those that don't have a fixed salary. If this is you, then work it out over three months and average it to get a good picture.
- 3. Find out how much you spend. People always think of a budget as being boring and restrictive but this doesn't need to be the case. You can allow room in your budget for splurging on whatever you love splurging on. The difference now will be that you can do it guilt-free because you know you can afford it.
- 4. Find out what possible solutions there are to your budgetary issues. So often people who have debt issues, cash flow issues and budgeting issues are too scared to do anything about it. The best thing you can do is speak to people in the know or read knowledgeable resources and you will be amazed that the solutions aren't as scary as you thought. When I was a boy, my parents bought me Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki and I still think it is a great way to start.
So when it comes to money and stress, stop sticking your head in the sand. Get yourself informed about your true status and real solutions, and you will be amazed at how much the reduced stress influences your everyday life and health.
