Where do you find out about health information? I mean really think about it: where have you learnt most of the health stuff you know? When you truly consider this, you will realise that much of it came from newspapers, TV, advertising, friends/family and the Internet. Are these really the sources you want to rely on for your health? Most people do more thorough research into buying a car than they do into how to look after their bodies.

People often ask me if it is ‘worth’ going to see their doctor or ‘worth’ going to see a podiatrist or ‘worth’ going and seeing a naturopath about a specific condition or problem. They are often surprised when my answer invariably comes back as a yes. People tend to think that because I’m a wellness expert and columnist, I have all the answers and that I wouldn’t want to them to go and get a second opinion that may differ from mine.

I was simply amazed to read the other day that so many people in our society have a problem with breast feeding in public. Given all that we now know about the benefits of breast feeding and the fantastic advantages it provides for both mum and baby, why would anyone have an issue with this?
I read a recent survey suggesting that more than half of the overweight population wrongly believe they are a healthy weight and it got me thinking. How often do we confuse what is common with what is ‘normal'.
