When it comes to your health do you treat your body like a high performance machine or an old rust bucket? And if you treat it like an old rust bucket do you still expect it to perform like a high performance machine?
So often we take our bodies and our health for granted in a way that we would never do for our cars. We all understand that if we want our cars to perform well and last a long time that we need to keep it serviced. We also know that we don't wait until it is broken down before we give it a service, nor do we wait until we are blowing smoke before we put in some oil. So why don't we give our bodies the same respect.
Over the next few weeks we have the privilege of seeing some of the most finely tuned, well looked after bodies travelling around Adelaide. The riders of the Tour Down Under want their bodies to perform at their absolute peak and so treat them accordingly. They very carefully watch their diet, they follow very specific training regimes and they set goals and utilise affirmations.
Just as importantly they also use regular chiropractic care to keep their bodies fine-tuned and performing at their best. Lance Armstrong in his book ‘Every Second Counts' says of his chiropractor "while he fixed us physically, he also fixed us mentally", "without him, we knew we'd never make it to Paris". In fact Lance got checked by his chiropractor twice a day during every one of his seven Tour De France wins.
Now Lance was obviously not just using chiropractic to "fix" injuries, if he was that injury prone he would never have completed a Tour, let alone won seven. He understood that regular check-ups and fine tuning of his body and his nervous system enables him to not only perform at his best but also to meet all of the challenges along the way; be it a sore back, a common cold or a particularly challenging hill.
