Drink bottles

E-mail Print PDF
plastic bottlesYou surely must have heard all the noise in recent times around the chemicals in our plastics. Research is pouring in showing that the petrochemicals in our plastic bottles, tin liners and clingwrap has been leaching out and infesting our food. In fact some countries are presently trying to ban these compounds. The concern is the effect these chemicals have been shown to have on the hormone systems of our bodies. The chemicals that have been singled out at this stage are Phthalates and Biphenol A (BPA). They have been linked with erectile dysfunction, breast cancer, reproductive system cancers infertility, endometriosis and polycystic ovaries, just to name a few.

Powerful training

powerWhen most people think about power training, they think of massive overinflated body builders glistening with fake tan shaping up in front of a mirror. However power training is about a lot more than that, and is important for people of all ages.

One thing people often get confused about is the difference between power and strength. Strength is the amount of force you can produce (i.e. how much weight can you lift) whereas power includes the element of speed (i.e how fast can you lift/push/pull it).

Vaccination

vaccineI have no doubt that this will be the most popular (and the most inflammatory) column I have written for a while. Any time we speak out about vaccination it seems to stir up a real hornet's nest. The reason is that vaccination is a very personal issue, and one that is prone to very severe biases (from both sides of the agenda).

Vegetables

vegetablesOk this one should really go without saying but having a look around at most people's diets it seems like there are plenty of people who didn't listen to their mum. Vegetables really are the number one thing you can eat for your health. But don't fall into the trap of thinking that one ‘super' vegetable is going to save you, there is no such thing.

Is juicing healthy or not?

E-mail Print PDF

juiceJuicing seems to be one of those things that people either love or hate in terms of health benefits. On one hand, it is a fantastic way to get a concentrated injection of natural nutrients. Raw whole fruits are a great way to supplement your diet. On the other hand there is more in the fruit than just the water soluble nutrients. Most people don't realise that fruits and vegetables are in fact the best source of fibre. You can also get more pieces of fruit (and in particular sugar) concentrated into a glass of juice than you would ever consume in one session.

So what is the answer?
